Pratt Signage System Redesign
WAYFINDING & SIGNAGE DESIGN
Brief:
Redesign the Pratt’s Brooklyn campus signage system.
Solution:
Pratt campus is made up of an assortment of historic buildings and more contemporary additions. Due to some buildings dating back to 1887, not all of the buildings have proper exterior signage. Each building is assigned their own type of metal. The metal that is used for the destination sign (18A) and the wayfinding signage (18C). This aids in distinguishing one building from another, as well as providing a visual to search for, not just the building name.
For the interior, I made the signage interactive due to the student body being made up of creatives. Each floor has a sign that provides the floor number and room numbers (12.1). The interactive system comes into play with each room number being assigned a symbol. The idea is for students to draw the symbol using the provided chalk (12.2) on the chalkboard wall tiles in the direction of the room (à la Hansel and Gretel breadcrumb trail). The system produces wayfinding information, artistic participation, as well as artwork to brighten the halls.
